Welcome, Tracy!

The Finer Things Book Club would like to officially welcome it's newest member, Ms. Tracy Dardick, of Chicago. Tracy works with Kris Tina at Jenner & Block and is in the Private Client practice group. Although I haven't met Tracy yet, she comes highly recommended by Kris Tina (and let's face it, when was the last time KTC led us wrong? -- cf., the Carklef Chronicles (http://carlklef.blogspot.com, blog posts dated Friday, Oct. 19, and Tues., Nov. 27, for some very close calls), and she is already half-way through "For Whom the Bell Tolls," which shows a serious commitment.

So, without further ado and with much rejoicing, we wish a warm, holiday welcome to Tracy!

Welcome Tracy.

Abby - I DIDN'T BUY THOSE BOOTS! and duh those collar stays are for Ross. I would never waste my money on something as ridiculous as that for myself!

And I almost don't care if Robert Jordan blows up the bridge or not.

Oh, yes, welcome Tracy.

Incidentally, as a founding member of The Finer Things Club I have to say that I am completely against just letting in new members. We need to establish some acceptance criteria to make sure we are only including our kind of people into this group. You know, people dedicated to the pursuit of finer things. In order to keep our status as the most exclusive club we need to be very discerning. New recruits should be required to demonstrate that they will live up to our standards and have endless respect to the more senior members of the Club. What I'm trying to say here is that we need to have a hazing ceremony. We should have them do the sorts of things that make them feel like they've earned their membership.

Welcome Tracy!

Also, I think Todd may be on to something. Hazing is the way of the future. And the past. And the present, apparently.

Maybe Tracy does all my work stuff for a week? Maybe she finishes painting Todd's house? Or both?

KTC -- I was referring to the other Nov. 27th post, the slanderous one about Chili's being on the same level as Applebee's. Oh that's painful even to type.

Todd and Lindy-- First, I find it somewhat ironic that the talk about demonstrating a commitment to the Club and our mission is coming from the man who opted for the Cliff's Notes version of our very first book. Hmmm. Second, I think hazing idea is EXCELLENT. Maybe we should draw lots on who gets to "mentor" the new members -- I've got a nasty case that I'm more than happy to hand over to some eager-to-please new Finer Things member. However, I think we should grant Tracy a special dispensation because she didn't know that hazing would be part of the deal and we have now met over email, so I can add my witness to KTC's that she is "our kind of people."

Abby--you're so just. That's why you're such a great servant of the people

I suggest caution before you dole out hazing because I have not provided any book suggestions yet (but, seriously, Ross, I'm not sure I could come up with better punishment than Hemingway).

I'm really starting to like Tracy already. I think this was a good move for TFTBC (The Finer Things Book Club).

Ooooh. I love that we're an acronym. Also, Lindy, I hope you're ready to step up to your heavy responsibilities next month. You're in a position to set the tone for the whole year.

Abby, you've got some nerve accusing me of getting Cliff's Notes of WH. I know I was not the only one who got them. I didn't read them though. Of course, I didn't read the book either. I'm not sure what to think of January's book selection, but let's hope it can hold my attention for more than 30 decond increments. I'm beginning to think I'm becoming illiterate.
